The Paul John Caffeine Company produces coffee from select beans that are sourced predominantly from the luscious estates of Coorg in Karnataka, India. What was once largely uninhabitable till the mid-1800s, Coorg has come to be known as the ‘Scotland of India’ and also ‘India’s Coffee Cup’. The tiny Coorg district is hidden away on the steep slopes and deep valleys of one of the world’s richest and most diverse ecological hotspots. The lush biomass, the rich soil, and the varied flora and fauna that co-exist among native fruit and spice trees amalgamate to produce a coffee bean that is like none other.Â
When we started the Paul John Caffeine Company, we set out to introduce the best Indian coffee beans to the rest of the world. At its helm, is founder Shonali Paul, one of the very few women in the male-dominated world of coffee. Together, we work with a number of estates in the South of India to find distinct flavor profiles that are grown with meticulous care and attention.
Shade-grown Indian coffee beans develop a strong and robust flavor due to their slow growth and maturation process which allows them to have a highly complex flavor profile, and low acidic content. The roots of neighboring fruit and spice plants that coexist on these lavish estates merge beneath the earth and provide intense depth and flavor to the coffee bean giving it a rich and complex taste profile – this truly isn’t your average cuppa joe!
Consumed by the slow espresso ‘decoction’ and the tuft of creamy froth atop a cup of South Indian filter coffee, we chose to reveal this hidden taste of India by providing the complete experience. Beyond just the slow brew of ‘kappi’, the rich and full-bodied Indian coffee is perfect for brewing in a Moka Pot, drip machine, French Press, or even as a pour-over. Multiple coffee blends to suit every taste, mood, and occasion, paired with the convenience of finding your favorite cuppa, and a bespoke collection of coffee-inspired accouterments round out the Paul John Caffeine Company dictum. Founder – Paul John Caffeine
Coffee is the elixir of life. A morning ritual for some, a daily pick-me-up for many, and for one person, a chance to connect the West to the East. Born in Bangalore in the South of India, Shonali Paul, daughter of acclaimed liquor baron Paul P John, founder of John Distilleries, discovered her love for coffee at a very young age. During visits to her grandfather’s estate in Coorg, Shonali had a chance to savor a coffee that was bold, yet creamy; uplifting, yet relaxing – a complex set of emotions topped off with a light and airy ‘froth’ from the blended sweetened milk that sat atop the overnight brewed ‘decoction’. This was the very definition of South Indian coffee, a brew so unique that it became her ambition to introduce it to the US where she now resides.
Following in her father’s footsteps, Shonali Paul spurred by her love for coffee, set out to establish the Paul John Caffeine company in 2022. Only the finest, single-origin coffee beans are imported from her home in Karnataka where they are roasted, ground, and packaged in Florida. Unlike the most common coffees imported from South America and Africa, Shonali found the opportunity to bring the slow living of Indian coffee to a place where everything was instant. It was a chance to savor a coffee brewed with love, a slow espresso that made you literally stop to wake up and smell the caffeine. Driven by the desire to share the unique flavors of South Indian coffee, Shonali Paul envisioned a space where every sip invites you to pause, breathe, and immerse yourself in the rich, slow experience of savoring caffeine.

Our coffee beans are ethically procured at source from coffee plantations in Coorg and surrounding estates in South India.
Once sourced, the coffee beans are exported to the USA where they are roasted, ground, packed, and shipped.
Our master blenders have created a variety of blends that celebrate the inimitable qualities of Indian coffee – with something for every mood, moment, and memory.
